The Standing Committee of the Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee recently issued Resolution No. 51-NQ/TU dated February 12, 2026, on focusing leadership and guidance on building "drug-free communes and wards." This is a strong political determination of the province to create fundamental and sustainable changes in drug prevention and control, aiming to preserve a peaceful and happy life for the people and create a safe environment for socio-economic development.
During the period 2026-2030, Lao Cai province plans to develop 20 industrial parks (IPs) with a total area of approximately 5,797.89 hectares and 50 industrial clusters (ICs) with a total area of 2,647.84 hectares. In 2026 alone, the province will create more than 500 hectares of cleared land in IPs and ICs to attract strategic domestic and foreign investors.

At the beginning of the term, the poverty rate in the province (when it included Lao Cai and Yen Bai before the merger) was 21.24%, equivalent to 84,076 poor households. This figure represented a huge challenge because poverty was concentrated mainly in ethnic minority areas and particularly difficult mountainous communes.
Lao Cai currently has approximately 380,000 young people (70% of whom are ethnic minorities) – a large and potential labor force. After two days of intensive, democratic, and highly responsible deliberations, the Sixth Session (the year-end regular session of 2025) of the 16th Lao Cai Provincial People’s Council for the 2021–2026 term successfully completed its full agenda and adopted 46 important resolutions.
