Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, emphasized that the construction of multi-level boarding schools in border communes is a strategically significant policy, contributing not only to improving the quality of education but also to strengthening national defense and security, and maintaining national border sovereignty. This project has profound humanitarian significance, demonstrating the concern of the Party and the State for the people in mountainous and border areas.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, delivered a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony.

Lao Cai is a mountainous, border province facing many difficulties, with over 182 km of border shared with Yunnan Province (China), and is primarily inhabited by ethnic minorities. In recent years, Lao Cai province has made efforts to invest in education development, but the learning and living conditions of students in the highlands remain limited, requiring continued attention and investment.

To date, Lao Cai province has started construction on 4 out of 9 multi-level boarding schools in border communes. The groundbreaking ceremony for the project in Ban Lau is the next step in completing the school system, creating better learning conditions for students, contributing to raising the intellectual level of the people, and training local human resources.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Lao Cai province affirmed that the locality is committed to ensuring the progress and quality of the projects, completing the four schools in the first phase before August 30, 2026, for use in the 2026-2027 school year. At the same time, they will continue to prepare the conditions for implementing subsequent projects, strengthen inspection and supervision, and prevent any negative incidents, losses, or waste.

Upon completion, the Ban Lau Primary and Secondary Boarding School will contribute to improving the quality of education, strengthening national unity, creating a solid foundation for socio-economic development, and ensuring national defense and security in the border region.

According to the approved investment plan, phase 2 of 5 projects to build boarding schools for primary and secondary levels in Lao Cai includes 5 schools: Trinh Tuong Primary and Secondary Boarding School; Ban Lau Primary and Secondary Boarding School; Ban Vuoc Primary and Secondary Boarding School; Si Ma Cai Primary and Secondary Boarding School; and Ban Phiệt Primary and Secondary Boarding School. Ban Lau Primary and Secondary Boarding School was chosen as the groundbreaking site in Lao Cai province.

A large number of local residents and students attended the ceremony.

Reportedly, the Ban Lau Primary and Secondary Boarding School is the fifth project to be started in Lao Cai province. The project is a comprehensive facility including classrooms, an administrative building, a multi-purpose hall, student dormitories, teacher housing, along with technical infrastructure, fire protection systems, and other supporting facilities. The building will accommodate approximately 28 classes with nearly 1,000 students, constructed on an area of nearly 50,000 m², with a total investment of 230 billion VND. Previously, Lao Cai province had started construction on four modern boarding schools in border communes, with a total investment of nearly 945 billion VND, expected to be completed before the 2026-2027 school year.
