Bac Ha introduces traditional meal sets of local ethnic groups

As part of the 2026 Bac Ha Autumn Festival, the Bac Ha Heritage and Cultural Market Management Board has held a launch event at Hoang A Tuong Mansion to introduce traditional meal sets of Bac Ha's ethnic groups.

Organizers selected and introduced visitors to some of the most representative local dishes, arranging four traditional meal sets of the Tay, Nung, Mong and Kinh communities. All are strongly imbued with the flavours of the highlands.

sac-mau-vung-cao.jpgSour pho noodles, wild banana-flower salad, sour bamboo-shoot soup, hong eggs and many other traditional dishes with the characteristic colours and flavours of Bac Ha's highlands are introduced to visitors in the cultural setting of Hoang A Tuong Mansion.

The Tay meal set features 11 traditional Bac Ha dishes, including boiled black chicken, bamboo-tube duck, fish soup with sour bamboo shoots, sour pho noodles and black banh chung.

The traditional Tay meal attracts visitors with its variety and harmonious combination of colours and distinctive highland flavours.

The 12-dish Mong meal, featuring roast suckling pig with mac mat leaves, thang co stew, chao-style duck with elephant-foot yam, wild banana-flower salad, corn cake and Ban Pho corn liquor, has a particular appeal for visitors.

The traditional meal of the Nung people in Bac Ha Commune is vivid in colour, with specialties including black-pork khau nhuc, fried su cakes, five-colour sticky rice and phien soup.

The 14 dishes in the Kinh meal set reflect culinary interaction among Bac Ha Commune's ethnic groups. Alongside familiar flavours such as boiled chicken, Vietnamese pork sausage, grilled stream fish and glass-noodle soup, a special highlight is spring rolls wrapped with doi leaves, which have a distinctive local aroma.

After enjoying the traditional cuisine, visitors could continue immersing themselves in Nung culture through melodious folk songs and bowls of thac liquor offered with warm hospitality.

Following the launch, organizers will facilitate bookings for visitors who wish to enjoy these traditional meal sets at Hoang A Tuong Mansion. The experience will allow guests to learn more deeply about the cultural meaning of each dish, preparation methods using local ingredients and the customs and stories associated with local life.
