Hop Thanh Commune organizes the Forbidden Forest Spring Worship Ceremony

On the morning of March 1 (February 2, The year of the Snake), the People's Committee of Hop Thanh commune, Lao Cai city organized a ceremony to worship the forbidden forest and launched a forest planting movement, signing a commitment to protect the forest.

The ceremony was held to commemorate the merits of the village's patron saint Quan Tao Cang - the founder of Ban Cang (ancient times), praying for a new year of favorable weather, bountiful crops, and lush forests.

The ceremony was attended by many Tay people in Cang 1 and Cang 2 villages.

The worshiping ritual of the Thanh Hoang of Quan Tao Cang village and the forbidden forest worshiping ritual of the Tay community in Cang 1 and Cang 2 villages of Hop Thanh commune have existed for a long time. However, due to many reasons, over a long period of time, this ritual has gradually faded away and been forgotten.

In 2019, implementing the Resolution of the Central Committee 5 (VIII term) on building and developing advanced Vietnamese culture, imbued with national cultural identity, Project 10 of the Hop Thanh Commune Party Committee on building and developing the culture of ethnic groups in the commune associated with developing community tourism, the People's Committee of Hop Thanh Commune mobilized people to restore and rebuild the village's Thanh Hoang temple and the Cam Forest Worship Ceremony. Since then, the 2nd day of the 2nd lunar month has become a festival day for the Tay ethnic community in Hop Thanh Commune.

Within the framework of the festival, many exciting activities took place, such as: procession, culinary display competition of 12 villages; rice cake pounding competition; throwing con; stick pushing, tug of war... Traditional folk games: blindfolded duck catching, walking on a balance beam, swinging, catching swallows, jumping rope, walking on stilts...

People participate in folk games, culture and arts during the festival.

On this occasion, Hop Thanh commune launched a campaign to plant trees and afforestation for all local people. At the same time, it called on people to continue donating land and returning the area of the sacred forest.

Representatives of the commune government, Lao Cai City Forest Protection Department and people from villages in the commune signed a commitment to protect the forest.

The festival was also an opportunity for the locality to promote and propagate to the people to continue protecting, preserving and developing forests, protecting ecological diversity, thereby contributing to preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups, developing community tourism in the suburbs of the city.
