Lao Cai cooperates to survey production area planning and organic certification of key products

On the morning of March 23, Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee had an online meeting with EUBIZ Vietnam Joint Stock Company and advisors and experts on trade promotion.

Attending the meeting at the bridge point of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee were Mr. Trinh Xuan Truong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Hoang Quoc Khanh, Standing Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee; leaders of relevant departments and branches.

Mr. Michele D'Ercole, President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, as well as advisors and trade promotion experts, took part in the online meeting. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, General Director of the Company, and Mr. Ngo Quoc Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Company, represented EUBIZ Vietnam Joint Stock Company.

At the meeting, the delegates heard representatives of EUBIZ Vietnam Joint Stock Company and advisors and trade promotion experts discuss about organic farming models and technology to develop high quality cinnamon essential oil; export processing technology of EUBIZ Company; exchange on international trade promotion.

According to EUBIZ Company's assessment and that of advisors and trade promotion experts, Lao Cai province has a lot of potential to attract investors to the agricultural sector: Has a large organic agricultural production area, is a leader in international trade promotion, and was a pioneer in deploying CADM certificates in export; the province has implemented digital transformation, traceability, CMR, and ERP for more than 60% of businesses and more than 80% of government activities using e-commerce…

The orientation of EUBIZ Company in the coming time will be to coordinate with Lao Cai province to implement the production of organic cinnamon products and export fruit products.

Mr. Trinh Xuan Truong, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, presented the potentials and advantages of agro-forestry production in Lao Cai province, as well as the direction for the development of organic agricultural raw materials in the coming period. Currently, Lao Cai has formed a number of concentrated commodity areas: tea (6,364 ha), banana (3,300 ha), pineapple (1,600 ha), medicinal herbs (3,584 ha), and cinnamon (46,844 ha), essentially meeting market demand. There are 140 hectares with 11 types of medicinal herbs that meet GACP-WHO standards; 200 hectares of tea that meet VietGAP standards; 10 hectares of pineapple that meet VietGAP standards; 5,730 ha of cinnamon that achieved the FSC certificate of sustainable forest management, and 3,503 ha that achieved the organic cinnamon standard.

Lao Cai province will develop key commodity industries associated with standards to meet market requirements by 2025. As a result, localities will produce approximately 3,500 hectares of organic agriculture and convert approximately 14,000 hectares of conventional production to organic production for key crops such as tea, banana, pineapple, cinnamon, and so on.

Lao Cai province issued Resolution No. 26/2020/NQ-HDND and Resolution No. 33/2021/NQ-HDND on agricultural production support policies, including 50 million VND/organic certification and a pilot site clearance mechanism, to encourage organizations and individuals to participate in organic agricultural production. Lao Cai province asked EUBIZ Company and related units to assist the province in surveying organic production areas in order for the province's key commodity production areas to be certified as sustainable organic, meeting export demand. Organic certification for key products and commodities; capacity building for production groups, groups, and cooperatives; investment in Lao Cai province processing and consumption factories.
